GARY GREENSTEIN

Greenstein was most recently the Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs for the RIAA where he handled a wide range of statutory licensing matters for the recording industry, including participation in the first Webcasting copyright arbitration royalty proceeding, voluntary negotiations with XM Satellite Radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, the three preexisting subscription services, and various classes of webcasters (large commercial, small commercial and noncommercial). He also played a leading role in negotiations over the Small Webcaster Settlement Act of 2002 and the 2004 CARP reform legislation. Greenstein also represented SoundExchange in the Notice and Recordkeeping Rulemaking conducted by the Copyright Office to establish recordkeeping regulations for webcasters and other statutory licensees. From 1996 to 2001, Greenstein was an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Arnold & Porter where he represented Major League Baseball on numerous matters before the U.S. Copyright Office, with a particular focus on satellite and cable statutory licensing matters. He also served as outside counsel to the music industry, specializing in statutory and nonstatutory licensing matters for the use of sound recordings through new digital media. Before attending law school, Greenstein was the Director of Planned Giving for The Wilderness Society, a Washington, D.C. nonprofit conservation organization. Prior to The Wilderness Society he was a Fiduciary Real Estate Asset Manager for Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company, a subsidiary of The Boston Company. Greenstein is a 1996 graduate of the George Washington University Law School and a 1987 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
